Early stage. Big goals.

Measurably reduce CO₂e by 10Mt annually. Humanity is emitting more than 50 billion tonnes (Gt) of CO₂e annually, and the net zero goal is to reduce global emissions to zero by 2050. It is going to take a lot of solutions to reach that. 10 Mt/year is both a tiny and a huge amount. We believe this is possible, if the world truly commits to the goal.

Identify and impact co-benefits. Altering how civilization powers everything is an enormous challenge for humanity. If our only metric is emission reduction then we might forget other important concerns and trample the rights of people with less power and destroy ecosystems. Subtaiga will build solutions promoting environmental justice and health.

Work for 2030. Net zero has two major phases. First, we must reduce global emissions to 50% of their 2005 levels by 2030. Then, from 2030–2050 we need to further reduce net emissions to zero. Some of these reductions will come from carbon removal because we will probably continue emitting some carbon in the long run (e.g., for air travel). Both phases are critical, but we have a long way to go to meet the 2030 goals. Subtaiga aims to first work on solutions for 2030.

Make improvements. We have a huge opportunity before us. The consequences of unabated climate change are terrifying, but if we proceed thoughtfully we can make the world better, cleaner, fairer, and more modern for all.
